Chy is the Executive Director of the BriarPatch Family Centre, and is our most experienced counsellor and educator.. With a natural focus on gentle guidance and theory, Chy provides a compassionate and proven method for support. She loves working with all ages, and has a gifted interest in children's grief and baby loss/child loss. Her own experiences with grief have created an understanding of the process that is most effective for her clients.
With the current growth of our programs, Chy has limited times available for counselling. Once our new programs are in place, her active times will increase.

Brenna primarily works alongside children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Her skills are particularly honed in handling anxiety, depression, and grief. Additionally, Brenna is well-versed in addressing school-related challenges, navigating relationship and peer issues, assisting with adjustment during significant life transitions, and providing support around gender identity concerns.
Brenna has training specific to Child Development, Behavioural Management, Grief Processes, Crisis and Intervention, Trauma-Informed Practice, Risk Assessment, and LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Diversity training. This training has assisted her in recognizing the unique needs and circumstances that arise within our diverse communities. Her practice is rooted in a Person-Centred Therapeutic Approach (PCT), integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) , Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT), and Art and Play Therapy principles to cultivate personalized treatment to support the therapeutic journey.
As part of her ongoing academic journey and the completion of her master's program internship, Brenna Oswald will temporarily not be offering counseling services at this location. However, she looks forward to returning in April to continue her work with clients.

The BriarPatch Family Centre recognizes that our practice is situated on Treaty 6 territory, which has long served as a traditional meeting ground, sanctuary, and corridor for the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux communities. As a center focused on mental well-being, healing, and family support, we pay our respects to the countless First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals whose enduring presence and spiritual connection to this land have left an indelible imprint over centuries. We make this acknowledgment not only as a statement of respect, but also as a reaffirmation of our commitment to fostering a sense of community, inclusivity, and reconciliation within the framework of our services
The BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre is funded by Community, Individual and Family Donations, grants from Strathcona County Family and Community Services, the County Clothes~Line Foundation and Alberta Children's Service (Government of Alberta). As a Registered Canadian Charity, the BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre welcomes both monetary and in~kind donations, and provides an Official Tax Receipt and Gratitude Letter for each and every donation. Every amount is precious to us and helps our Centre provide support to those who seek growth in their journey.
