Joanna works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families from all walks of life. She helps people who have difficulties with anxiety, grief, parenting, and relationship issues such as infidelity, divorce, and conflict. She also treat mood disorders, as well as dissociative disorders in co-occurrence with trauma and stressor-related disorders.
Joanna uses various Play Therapy, Geek (Superhero) Therapy, and Art Therapy interventions to support children and teens in processing emotions, exploration of choices, and reflection on conflicts. These are safe, developmentally appropriate therapies that help children and youths to increase their frustration tolerance, strengthen their communication skills to reach their goals, and develop a growth mindset. She also support parents with neurodiverse children by providing them with positive parenting supports, education on behaviour expectations, and strategies to improve children’s behaviours.
Joanna is a master’s level clinical counsellor who helps individuals, couples, and families to find their path to fulfilment and self-actualization. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and is registered and certified as a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She also is a certified trainer and offers therapeutic workshops and groups through Alberta Programs as follows: Anxiety to CalmTM (recommended to people who struggle with mild to moderate anxiety) and Happiness BasicsTM (for mild to moderate depression).

The BriarPatch Family Centre recognizes that our practice is situated on Treaty 6 territory, which has long served as a traditional meeting ground, sanctuary, and corridor for the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux communities. As a center focused on mental well-being, healing, and family support, we pay our respects to the countless First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals whose enduring presence and spiritual connection to this land have left an indelible imprint over centuries. We make this acknowledgment not only as a statement of respect, but also as a reaffirmation of our commitment to fostering a sense of community, inclusivity, and reconciliation within the framework of our services
The BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre is funded by Community, Individual and Family Donations, grants from Strathcona County Family and Community Services, the County Clothes~Line Foundation and Alberta Children's Service (Government of Alberta). As a Registered Canadian Charity, the BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre welcomes both monetary and in~kind donations, and provides an Official Tax Receipt and Gratitude Letter for each and every donation. Every amount is precious to us and helps our Centre provide support to those who seek growth in their journey.
